For sale: 1951 BMW R51/3 £12,450

A rare UK-market, AFN-supplied solo R51/3 retaining its original Middlesex registration. The bike comes from thirty years of care and light use in a specialist collection. An important model for the manufacturer, the R51/3 is a sporting 500cc air-cooled opposed twin with shaft drive, telescopic forks and sprung rear suspension.

This older restoration continues to present well in classic black with white pinstriping. Freshly-serviced, the bike features a rebuilt correct-type engine, foot gear change with hand neutral, stainless fish-tail exhaust, sprung seat and side-stand. We have fitted new tyres. A lightweight and enjoyable fine-weather ride – and nearly 75 years old!

Sold: 1966 BMW R69S

The R69S was the final sporting version of BMW’s long-running 2 series. The bikes retained their traditional engineering and appearance, and had become rather distinctive by the late-1960s as a result. This matching numbers example was originally supplied by Glockler in Frankfurt, before coming to the UK and undergoing an extremely thorough and expert restoration more recently. It has since been looked after by the Classic Bike Workshop. A handsome thing and a lovely ride, with a pair of leather panniers and a passenger seat for occasional touring duties.
